Blue Plaque, Cliff Parade, Wakefield
This is on a building which is now part of the Magistrates Court. The Blue Plaque tells us "This building is the surviving part of the Tammy (cloth) Hall opened in 1777. In 1878 it became the borough's fire and police station, as the carvings show". The carved head of a policeman or fireman can be seen above the door in Image] with the blue plaque to the left of the door. Tammy Hall
Tammy Hall, a large grade II listed building erected for the sale of a special locally produced worsted cloth in the 1770’s. LBS No. 441739 After various other users in the mid nineteenth century, the building was purchased by the Corporation in 1876 and was altered and refaced to provide a Borough Police Station and Fire Station. It is now part of the Magistrates Court. Image

Wakefield County Hall
Wakefield County Hall, showing the polygonal corner tower, which is topped by a dome. Built in 1894-1898, the architects were Gibson and Russell. It is a grade I listed building. The building was formerly the County Hall of the West Riding County Council from 1898 to 1974, and of the West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council from 1974 to 1986. It was acquired by the City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council in 1987 as the Council’s main headquarters.

No 3, Burton Street
3 Burton Street, Wakefield. The building has been used as a private dwelling. In trade directories in 1904, it is mentioned as being occupied by the Inspector of County Police. In later years, it was used for council offices.
