Warehouses by the River Calder
Old warehouse buildings on the River Calder just by the lock cut for the Navigation through Wakefield and on towards Castleford and Leeds. The photograph was taken in June 2006 before work started on a major redevelopment of this site.

The navigable River Calder, Wakefield
Looking downstream from the entrance to Fall Ing Cut. The river is navigable until just beyond the furthest building on the opposite bank, where there is a weir. Boaters wanting through navigation use Fall Ing Cut.

Wakefield Waterfront
Developed in the 1760s and 70s, the waterways were the catalyst for the construction of warehouses and other historic mill buildings that remain part of the River Calder conservation area to this day. During Wakefield’s industrial heyday, these buildings served as commercial properties for industries that relied upon the canal for the transportation of freight.
