The Gaslight
The Gaslight on Lower Warrengate was originally the home of the Wakefield Street Lighting Company. In the 19th century the company was given Royal Assent to light up the streets of Wakefield, by supplying gas to the city’s lamps. The spacious building dates back to 1889, and it has been beautifully restored, retaining many of its original features.

51-57 Kirkgate, Wakefield
The city centre redevelopment in 1955-57 resulted in a lot of buildings like this - brick, bland but inoffensive. Unless you are offended by bricks or blandness. Casino Gaming did not endure to 2025 but had been replaced by something of a similar ilk, Merkur Slots; Super Pound Store was still going; Fultons Foods has also not lasted.
