The old Great North Road
The strip of road in front of the Wentcliffe hotel B&B and the other two buildings show the original line of the Great North Road. This was superseded by the A1 dual carriageway, now redesignated as the A162 on the right of the photograph.

End of the road
End of the road for what used to be "The Great North Road" at Ferrybridge. This was superseded by the A1 in the early 1960s and now in turn has been displaced by the A1(M) new stretch a mile away.
