Empty building on Sagar Street, Castleford
It has deteriorated since the Jehovah's Witnesses stopped using it as a Kingdom Hall Image The plans to convert it into a community hub have not come to fruition yet. It looks as if it was built in the first half of the 19th century and appears to be on the large-scale OS map surveyed in 1848. If so it must be one of the oldest buildings in Castleford, but it is not listed as a historic building. Is it Castleford's first Wesleyan Chapel, which was opened in 1815, with an entrance on Sagar Street?

The Cratehouse
Another view of the controversial temporary 'sculpture' in its incongruous setting at the rather run-down end of Sagar Street. The red building to its right is the former Mechanics Institute (opened 1858), now a chapel, while the brick building to the right of that was once a fire station although it started life as the Wesleyan minister's manse in the mid-19th century.
