North of Elstree
A class 25 brings an engineering train north. New colour light signalling is being installed along the line and presumably the train is being moved in preparation of the weekend's planned work. Meanwhile, the line continues to be controlled by semaphore signals. Elstree station is behind the bridge in the distance, which carries Allum Lane over the railway. The gas holders are beside Station Road.

Former post office, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire
Fine example of a post office designed in a style known colloquially as "Post Office Georgian". The post office at nearby Radlett Image] is in a similar vein. Both buildings were designed by an architect (possibly Frederick Llewellyn) employed in the Government's Office of Works. On examination of this image, it would seem that the building had no entrance! In fact the original entrance was to the left of the building, but has been removed and replaced by a gate and passage way. Behind the building is a large telephone exchange from 1958.
