Rickmansworth: The Hour House
This building at Number 32 High Street is Grade II Listed, and the English Heritage website describes the exterior thus:- "House, now offices. Early to mid C18. Red brick with some timber framing to rear. Tiled roof. 3 bays. 2 storeys. Central entrance in brick arched headed surround to door with moulded architrave. Flanking 16 pane sashes in reveals, flat arched heads. First floor central blind window with sundial. Flanking 16 pane sashes with slightly cambered heads. Right gable end extruded stack with one offset, blocked window towards front. Wing to rear left with large stack, exposed timber frame on first floor, whitewashed brick ground floor. C20 casements. Broad gable. Clasped purlin roof. Later 2 storey gabled wing to rear right." The sundial can just about be seen on this gloomy day and is probably the reason for the name of the house.

Rickmansworth: The Coach and Horses
The Coach and Horses in the High Street is a Grade II Listed Building and the English Heritage website describes it thus:- "Public house. Probably late C16 or early C17, extended C18, refronted C19. Probable timber frame with stock brick front, red brick returns. Tiled roof. Originally 2 bays, extended to right, possibly an open hall. Floored and heated in C17. 3 window front. Entrance to left of centre with bracketed hood. Ground floor broad sashes with segmental heads. First floor 32 light casements. White brick quoining. Dentilled brick eaves. Central ridge stack. Left end external stack with large base is C17 with C19 cap. Tilehung gable behind stack. Extruded right end stack also has a large base. To rear left a long red brick and weatherboarded timber framed outbuilding. Continuous outshut to rear with catslide roof. Further C20 flat roofed 1 storey additions not of special interest." When your photographer approached the building the sound of a banging drum and wailing could be heard. Thinking this had to be the local Hare Krishna group getting warmed up, it turned out to be a group of Liverpool fans getting juiced up for the FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa at Wembley later in the day. No doubt the wailing continued long into the night as Villa won 2-1.

Town Ditch is the main watercourse of the old field drain system built to improve and manage drainage in the town many years ago. It starts as an outfall from the River Chess to the east of the town before flowing into the River Colne to the west. Here it is, looking upstream, running parallel to Talbot Road, which is off to the right.

Former Rickmansworth Methodist Church
Situated in the High Street, this Wesleyan Chapel was opened in 1866 on the site of a smaller chapel and coachbuilding firm. However, both properties were destroyed by fire in 1855, and the church subsequently bought the site. Being one of several churches in the Watford Circuit, services took place in this church until 1980 when they were transferred to St Mary's Parish Church in Church Street, TQ0694 refers. The former church was demolished in 1984 and offices now occupy the site, the postcode being WD3 1ET.
