A rich Victorian confection resembling a very ornate cake. By Charles Gray, 1857-58. "Gray, a co-founder of the Architectural Association, aimed to develop a new style from such mixtures [the channelled rustication below and arches above]". Grade II listed.

Built as St Peter's Hospital (for urology) in 1881-82 to the design of hospital specialist J.M. Brydon, "in early Norman Shaw style rather than the Neo-Baroque which made his name". Grade II listed.

Jane Austen stayed here
Henry Austen, Jane's brother, was a partner in Tilson's Bank which was at this location in Henrietta Street at Covent Garden. Jane Austen and their niece, Fanny Knight, visited him in the March of 1814 and stayed here. Jane wrote to her sister, Cassandra, from here.

Site of Tilson's bank in 1814 where Jane Austen once stayed
This is the location of Tilson's bank, in Henrietta Street Covent Garden,where Jane Austen stayed in 1813/1814 when she visited London. Her brother Henry Austen was a partner in the bank at that time. The plaque on the wall was put there in 1999 by the Jane Austen Society and the City of Westminster.
