View eastward to Lea Green, Manchester etc.: ex-LNW main line. Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 45196 (built 1935, withdrawn 12/67) needs an 0-6-0T banker for the mere 1½ miles of 1-in-91 up from St Helens Junction.

Looking west, Lea Green railway station
Behind the fence, at the end of the opposite platform, was evidence of a catenary mast foundation, presumably in preparation for the electrification of the line from Liverpool to Manchester.

Along the line, Lea Green railway station
Beyond the western end of the platform, looking in the direction of Liverpool. A couple of catenary mast foundations are visible, before the signal, on the opposite side of the track. These are in preparation for the electrification of the oldest section of continuously-operated passenger railway in the world.
