Manchester Ship Canal, lock gate facility.
The big shed was the MSC Co's gate repair shed. The gates are now metal but were originally Greenheart timber and the shed contained monstrous woodworking kit. The gates were then slid onto this device here that would tip them in to a vertical position to be picked up by the 250 ton crane that could get end on to this structure. The shed is level but the satellite shows that some of the tilting device remains in situ.
