Bridge castings, A533 near Runcorn
As part of the construction of the new Mersey Crossing, a stretch of the A533 between Runcorn and Northwich has been closed and is being used to store concrete castings that will form part of the new bridge and road layout, due to open in 2017.

A footpath/cycleway on Wigg Island
The Island is named after Charles Wigg who established the first industrial factories on the site in the 1860’s. 23 hectares of reclaimed industrial land was opened as a public park and nature reserve in 2002.

Construction Work Alongside the Manchester Ship Canal
The Mersey Gateway is a new road bridge which will cross the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal just less than a mile to the east of the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge that connects the towns of Widnes and Runcorn. It will connect the Central Expressway in Runcorn with the Eastern Bypass and Speke Road in Widnes. Construction work for the new bridge began on 7 May 2014, with the bridge due to be finished by 2017.
