Fishermen's Cottages
Numbers 28 to 32 High Street are known as 'Fishermen's Cottages'. They are a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, being built on an outcrop of red sandstone. They serve as a reminder that considerable quantities of fish were once caught in the rivers Weaver and Mersey, and that fishing formed a vital part of the town's economy.
