Helsby, The Hill in the Snow
Taken from the bridge on the Railway station, we look up Station Avenue to the top of Helsby Hill. Fortunately the snow didn't stay for long.

Helsby railway station from Lower Rake Lane bridge
This is the third of three similar photos taken from this bridge, but it does show that little has changed in seven years, and that the sun does occasionally shine in Helsby.

Semaphore signals, Helsby railway station
A nice pair of upper quadrant home signals (the one on the left having two arms, presumably for sighting reasons) controlling access to the block section north of Helsby Junction (i.e., towards Warrington, Manchester, and Liverpool). The signal on the left is on the now lightly used line from Ellesmere Port, while the one on the right is on the main line from Chester, and has been pulled off to allow the 1541 departure to Liverpool Lime Street to continue on its way. Regular services to Liverpool via this route had been reinstated (after an absence of many years) a couple of weeks before this photo was taken.
