Knutsford Road swing bridge
The view regularly seen by car drivers in pre-motorway days waiting to make a dash for the high level bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal if the swing bridge was closed. No lorries could use the "escape route" as the high level bridge was (and is) weight-restricted.

The bridge is swung to the left - hence the photographer. To the right here is the "open" end of Knutsford Road. The swing bridge on the Manchester Ship Canal has been opened to allow our vessel through.
