A580 approaching the Greyhound roundabout, eastbound
There has been a pub called the Greyhound at the roundabout ahead for at least 50 years and quite possibly since the A580 opened in 1934. In pre-motorway days, this was an important junction for traffic in the other direction (from Manchester). Ahead for Liverpool and the exotic holiday locations of Formby, Ainsdale and Southport. Left for the chemical centres of Warrington and Widnes, or the heady foreign delights of the North Wales coast. As can be seen by the queue in the left-hand lane, there is still plenty of traffic around.
