Last of the few - Hale Barns
This brick terrace in Dial Road is almost all that remains of the original buildings of the Village. All the old premises and shops from an earlier era were demolished in the late 1950s and replaced by 'modern' development, much of which was replaced again in the 2000s.
The road (a cul-de-sac) leads, leftwards, to a public footpath over Ringway Golf Course.

New shop on the block
These premises in Hale Barns have housed a newsagents for most the last half century but what is now split in two was, for many years, one business combining a general shop, newsagents and Post Office. In the 1960s, it was run by a Mrs Henning.

View of Hale Barns village
From Hale Road - which continues towards the M56 and, beyond, as Wilmslow Road, to Wilmslow, skirting the eastern end of Manchester Airport. In general layout, the village is unchanged since the 18th century but many old houses, farms and cottages have given way to 20th and 21st century housing and retail units, the latest project being the redevelopment of the Square.

Hale Road, Hale Barns
No cars: a moment's lull on a busy road: a through route to the M56, the Airport and Wilmslow. Where the shops now are, cottages once stood, set back from the road: only the Chapel Hall, at the far end, has remained unchanged. In the 19th century, the section of road from Altrincham to Hale Barns was called Long Lane; from the village to Brooks' Drive was Easter Lane, named for the nearby farm; beyond that, towards Oversley Ford, was Yestow Lane. None of the old names has survived.
