St Peter's Church, Martinscroft
St Peter's RC Church in Weir Lane, Martinscroft was opened in 1835. Martinscroft, within the ancient manor of Woolston, was once home to the Mersey fishermen as the river had many fish at that time.

The local equivalent of a mangrove swamp
The path which contours the housing estate is separated from the river wall by and area of swampy scrubland. This, no doubt, provides an additional flooding defence.
