Derelict House, Charcoal Road
Brachendene, a large mock-Tudor house, was once a grand site with greenhouses, outbuildings and a swimming pool. It was used as an auxiliary hospital during the First World War http://www.geograph.org.uk/article/Auxiliary-Hospitals/10 .
The house was bought by the Iranian government in the 1970s and used to house the Iranian consul. In the years following Iran's Islamic revolution http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_page/newsid_8083000/8083525.stm , the building began to be left empty. It was finally abandoned in the 2000s. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35152399 (BBC News Magazine) for more information.
