Goose Green - Altrincham, Cheshire
An old enclave near the Altrincham to Chester railway line. Development of the adjacent areas has brought a cinema, superstore and ice rink. There is a sculpture of geese in the middle of the square, which is largely pedestrianised.

Goose Green, Altrincham
So called because, in the 19th century, local farmers used to pass through here with their birds on the way to the then open spaces of nearby Hale Moss.

Massive excavations at Goose Green
A multi-storey car park was constructed following this civil engineering work. The exposed box girder bridge marks the spot where - a generation ago - rail lines from Altrincham station used to run under the roadway to sidings and marshalling yards hers. In the 19th century - around 1849 - this was the site of Altrincham's first railway station - then known as "Bowdon Station". Later it was moved to its present site, further north, and re-named "Altrincham".
