From Newton-le-Willows to Bold - 1966
Local bus service provided by Lancashire United Transport, the principal bus operator in the area. The bus is a Guy Arab UF with Weymann bodywork and is picking up at the junction of Park Road South and Wargrave Road. The school has since been replaced by a care home. This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=2114547&displayclass=slide

Emmanuel Church, The Parish Church of Newton-in-Makerfield
Emmanuel Church, the Parish Church of Newton-in-Makerfield, was built in 1841 on a piece of land at Wargrave granted by Thomas Legh "for the erection of a church, schools, and rectory" in the previous year. The church is a stone building in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, west porch and a small tower with spire over the western entrance. It is probable that the church was built to serve the workers at the settlement around the nearby Vulcan Works as, at that time, the nearest church was at Winwick and, apart from the foundry, there were only a few straggling cottages and farms between Wargrave and the Common at Earlestown (http://newton-le-willows.com/history/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1015 Newton-le-Willows History Forum).
