Old Fish Market, Warrington
This open area in the Golden Square shopping centre is where the old Warrington Market once stood. The market was split into three sections; meat market, fish market and general market. All of it was moved into a new building on Bank Street in 1975.
The iron structure in the centre is all that remains of the Old Fish Market. Constructed 1855/6, it is Grade II listed building (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-58817-market-hall-and-fish-market-warrington British Listed Buildings).
When the town centre was being redeveloped in the 1970s, it was decided that this area together with the outer shell of the fish market should be retained for events and activities.
