Rainford (Junction) railway station, Lancashire
Opened in 1858 by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on what became the line from Liverpool Exchange to Manchester Victoria via Wigan. When this image was taken, passengers from Liverpool to Wigan by this line needed to change trains at Kirkby.
View south west towards Kirkby and Liverpool. This was once a three-way junction with platforms curving round towards Ormskirk (right) and St Helens (left).

Public house on News Lane, opposite Rainford Station (formerly Rainford Junction). Two rooms, lounge right with central bar; TV, background music, garden, playground and its own traffic lights to leave the car park. Good Beer Guide-listed; four cask ales on offer at my visit.
