Upper Halliford: Shepperton branch line railway
When this branch line to Shepperton was opened by the London & South Western Railway in 1864 it was single tracked and known as the Thames Valley Line, with the intention of it being extended to Weybridge. In the event the extension was never built, but the track was doubled to Shepperton in 1878. The Thames Valley line was one of the first to be electrified using the third rail 750v DC system reaching Shepperton in 1916. Nowadays the railway is just known as the Shepperton branch line. This view was taken looking from the Charlton Lane road bridge looking in the direction of Upper Halliford station.
