Minutes before sunset
On what had been a rather gloomy November afternoon, the rays of the sun sliced through below the local cloud cover a few minutes before sunset. Oaks on the east side of the gravel-pit had yet to lose their leaves, and they glowed in the flood of fiery light.

Fungi growing on a fallen willow log
Found in quite dense woodland that grows on a tongue of land that survived the days of gravel quarrying. I'm absolutely no expert, but these look to me like polypore fungi, probably of genus Trametes: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2558887
