On the junction in Kirkby
A traditional NYCC signpost and an old pump stand on the corner of the crossroads in the centre of Kirkby. In the background is the grade 2 listed Old School House which dates from 1683, but which has seen several alterations since then.

Church of St Augustine, Kirkby
One's first impression is that this is a most unusual looking church, particularly at the east end. The nave and tower are Georgian and date from 1815 whilst the raised east end containing the chancel was constructed to designs by Temple Moore soon after 1900, thus the different roof line and tiles, as well as square headed windows etc. Curious but not unattractive.

Church sundial
The inscription reads 'Time wasted is existence, used is life', but the Latin inscription above means nothing to me as I wasn't in a high enough class to learn latin at school. At least the sundial is accurate on this November morning as the church clock is still showing British Summer Time.
