The Newton Rose
Formerly The Tilesheds because on the nearby brick and tile works. It has stood empty for about four years now (at 2014) and one of only three pubs in the village. Rumour has it that the plan is to convert into residential accommodation.

The Newton Rose (Ex The Tilesheds)
Great Ayton only has three pubs. Possibly a result of quaker influences. This used to be The Tilesheds reflecting the local Tile and Brick Works which are shown nearby on Victorian maps. But the pub has recently had a makeover and changed its name to the Newton Rose. Why?

Great Ayton from Cliff Rigg
An early wander with the dog up Cliff Rigg. Fog creeping up from the Tees Valley, its duvet not quite reaching the village. In an hour’s time, there’ll be sufficient heat in the sun for it to dissipate.

Capt. Cook's Way
The houses are on Capt. Cook's Way, in NZ5611. The photographer is on Linden Avenue, in NZ5510, the confluence of the northing and easting being close to the post box. In the background Roseberry Topping (in NZ5712) dominates.
