19c Wharves, Ironmasters District
The remains of the former wharves are exposed at low tide on the River Tees. The wharves date from the nineteenth century and are along side the area known as the Ironmasters District which was a complex of blast furnaces and rolling mills the longest operating of which was the Ayresome Ironworks which closed in 1965.
