Derelict land awaiting re-development
This photograph shows a view of some derelict land (on the north bank of the River Tees) that is waiting to be re-developed. Part of the Stockton Campus of the University of Durham can just be seen on the horizon on the opposite side of the river. This picture was taken looking in a southerly direction towards Thornaby-on-Tees.

Teesdale Way seen from the Infinity Bridge
The Teesdale Way is a 160 km long distance path running the length of the Tees. Over this stretch in Stockton-on-Tees, it also functions as a cycle path alongside the as yet undeveloped North Shore area. Some new housing can be seen, with the Tees Barrage Image in the middle distance, and the Cleveland Hills on the horizon.

Wolfson Research Institute
This is the waterfront of the Queen's Campus, Stockton, of the University of Durham, where the Wolfson Research Institute lies between the River Tees and Image The river here is upstream of Image], which maintains the river at the level of an average high tide, 2.65m above Ordnance Datum. One of the goals of the barrage was to prevent polluted water coming upstream with the tide, but it can do nothing about material being washed downstream from inland towns and woodlands. Much floating debris used to be stranded on noxious mudbanks in this area, but now works its way down to the ponded water where there have been proposals to collect and burn it for power generation, as it does include a lot of wood as well as bottles, footballs and other plastics.

Millennium Infinity footbridge
The £15000000 footbridge connecting the University of Durham's Queen's Campus at Stockton to the north bank of the River Tees is very striking, but not very busy - I waited some time for some human interest, but none materialised despite the bridge clearly having room for a veritable torrent of humanity. Perhaps this is not entirely surprising, as the north bank at this stage is still awaiting is turn in the "Stockton Renaissance" proclaimed on many signs around the area, and still looks relatively derelict. Perhaps the February weather (overcast and spots of rain) were not conducive for tourism.
