Road ends, Portrack Marshes
The gate on the right appears to be a relic of when there was a steel works here. Today the site contains amongst other things a camp site. Being August it was of course closed (not that I could afford to stay there anyway). On the left is Portrack Marshes, a nature reserve.

White water course at the Tees Barrage
The Tees Barrage is a barrage across the River Tees completed in 1996 used to control the flow of the river, preventing flooding and the effects of tidal change. The project incorporates extensive provision for water sports, including the construction of a white water course for kayakers. This shows the course at peace - it looks very different when the water is running high. The pool is the second obstacle pool in the course, nicknamed the "Happy Eater".
