Leaf Removal Train, Eaglescliffe Station
This is one of the trains run annually in the Autumn to remove leaf mulch from the rails by using high-pressure water jets.

View northward, towards Stockton, Middlesbrough etc.: ex-NER main lines Northallerton/Darlington - Stockton - West Hartlepool - Sunderland - Newcastle, also Thornaby - Middlesbrough - Redcar - Saltburn: a very busy junction.

Eaglescliffe station
A Grand Central train for Sunderland in the platform. Because of landslips near Hartlepool this train will be diverted via Durham and Newcastle.

Eaglescliffe railway station, County Durham, 2009
Opened in 1852 at the junction where the Leeds Northern line (from Northallerton, straight ahead) met the Stockton and Darlington line (out of view to the right). View south west. There used to be a further island platform to the right, making four platforms in total. The waiting facilities were improved some 6 years after this image was taken - see Image for a 2019 view from a similar position.

Eaglescliffe railway station, County Durham
Opened in 1852 at the junction where the Leeds Northern line (from Northallerton, straight ahead) met the Stockton and Darlington line (out of sight to the right). View south west. There used to be a further island platform to the right, making four platforms in total. The waiting room dates from 2015.

Pigeon baskets in store at Eaglescliffe station
Judging by the cleanliness of the surroundings (and the modern appearance of the papers just out of shot on the table to the right), these pigeon baskets are still used to send racing birds around the country.

Oakwood Christian Centre
The former Commodore factory has been converted for use as a Christian Centre. Providing rooms for community groups the Tees Valley Community Church also meet here on Sundays
