Giant Hogweed beside The Teesdale Way
Teesdale Way walkers will be familiar with the signs warning against close encounters against Giant Hogweed, and long since abandoned shorts in favour of stouter leg protection. Contact with the sap causes dermititis and even blindness if caught on the eye. I have seen some examples reach 30ft high in this location - but this stretch has smaller plants, although the alien weed in endemic here. Active measures appear to have been made to keep a path through here and poison the plants. Sometimes known as Giant Cow Parsley.

Apex of a Tees Meander
The River Tees resembles the coils of a serpent at this point as it executes dramatic curves and bends in its fight to reach the North Sea.
