Eaglescliffe station
A Grand Central train for Sunderland in the platform. Because of landslips near Hartlepool this train will be diverted via Durham and Newcastle.

Eaglescliffe railway station, County Durham
Opened in 1852 at the junction where the Leeds Northern line (from Northallerton, straight ahead) met the Stockton and Darlington line (out of sight to the right).
View south west. There used to be a further island platform to the right, making four platforms in total. The waiting room dates from 2015.

Eaglescliffe railway station, County Durham, 2009
Opened in 1852 at the junction where the Leeds Northern line (from Northallerton, straight ahead) met the Stockton and Darlington line (out of view to the right).
View south west. There used to be a further island platform to the right, making four platforms in total. The waiting facilities were improved some 6 years after this image was taken - see Image for a 2019 view from a similar position.

Pigeon baskets in store at Eaglescliffe station
Judging by the cleanliness of the surroundings (and the modern appearance of the papers just out of shot on the table to the right), these pigeon baskets are still used to send racing birds around the country.
