Strickland and Holt, Yarm
Founded in its current location in Yarm High Street in 1854 by wine and spirit merchant Oliver Strickland and John Holt, pharmacist and great-uncle of today’s owner. Sherry, port and claret was imported by Strickland & Holt via the River Tees for bottling, labelling and on from the store and as part of deliveries made as far and wide as Wensleydale to the south-west and Bilsdale to the south-east. The pharmacy side was eventually sold off to Boots.

Yarm Town Hall
Charming little brick built town hall of 1710. It once had an arched open ground floor. A plaque on the south wall marks the height of the March 1811 flood. There are similarities to Northallerton as both towns have curving main streets lined with 18th century buildings, though Yarm's town hall is far nicer than the 19th century effort in Northallerton.
