Strickland and Holt, Yarm
Founded in its current location in Yarm High Street in 1854 by wine and spirit merchant Oliver Strickland and John Holt, pharmacist and great-uncle of today’s owner. Sherry, port and claret was imported by Strickland & Holt via the River Tees for bottling, labelling and on from the store and as part of deliveries made as far and wide as Wensleydale to the south-west and Bilsdale to the south-east. The pharmacy side was eventually sold off to Boots.

Yarm police station
The police have moved from a Victorian police station around the corner in Bentley Wynd to an even older building on the High Street. The building is early 18th century and has unusual round headed windows.

Shops on the High Street
The building looks interesting and the style would suggest a former inn [though no evidence could be found]. The building, like many others on the High Street, is 18th century, although the bay windows are probably a century later. Currently a florists and a children's nursery.
