Built in 1897 as a music hall, the Empire was bought in 1991 as a derelict building and has been restored to its former glory. It is now a privately owned music venue.

Scales of Justice statue, Middlesbrough
The Scales of Justice statue depicts two urchins being held by the scruffs of their necks by Lady Justice. The statue was created by sculptor Graham Ibbeson, and placed outside the newly-opened combined court centre in 1991.
