Old Milestone by the former A30 in Indian Queens
Carved stone post by the UC road (was A30), in parish of ST ENODER (RESTORMEL District), Indian Queens, at old A30/A392 junction, opposite the Port and Starboard Fish and Chip Shop, in pavement with back to corner of stone wall, on West side of road. Erected by the Local Highways Board in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : BODMIN / 11¾ : : NEWQUAY / 7¾ : : 87 : Grade II Listed. The Mission Church of St Francis
The established Anglican church had a problem in late 19th century Cornwall, their churches were centred on pre-industrial parishes and were often remote from the new industrial settlements. The answer was to set up mission churches like this one which was built in 1884.
