St Newlyn East Parish Church
The earliest stone church on the site was probably erected towards the end of the 12th century and was cruciform in shape. The lower parts of both the north transept (the Lady Chapel) and chancel walls are Norman masonry the stepped work at the base being quite distinct. The font is also from this period. In 1259 the church was re-dedicated by Bishop Bronescombe.

St Newlina - Carved feline head
The head of a cat or other feline rubbed smooth by centuries of worshippers' hands. Many of the pews in St Newlina have carved bench-end panels and some of them are topped with splendid heraldic beasts such as this one and Image] dating from the C15th or early C16th. Most of those benches that did not have mediaeval carving had good-quality Victorian carvings added in the C19th. These Mediaeval/Tudor carved beasts are probably the most interesting features of this church.
