The Gannel
This is a narrow sandy estuary on the western edge of Newquay. There is a low-tide footbridge near the photographer's position. When the tide is not low there is a ferry further down the estuary below the houses of the Pentire peninsula which are on the distant right hand side of the photograph.

A passenger ferry operates in summer between Fern Pit on the Newquay side, to Crantock beach. This is a view from the Crantock side of the Gannel.

The Gannel Ferry
The ferry takes passengers (and dogs) across the estuary when the tide is high enough to submerge the footbridge.
