Engine house behind Porthtowan beach

Porthtowan - Wheal Lushington engine house
The engine house was built for an "all indoors" beam engine that was never installed and now makes a distinctive house. In the foreground is the building housing the RNLI lifeguards and the local lifesaving club.

Wheal Lushington, Porthtowan
Engine house for a failed mining venture (Wheal Lushington - also known as New Wheal Towan) and now converted to a house. Built in 1872 and never contained an engine. A local referred to it as 'the folly'. The design of the house indicates a rotative with an all indoors beam. Almost certainly for winding. The mine would also have needed a pumping engine but there is no trace of this, if it was ever built.
