Old Lime Kiln at Perranarworthal
These lime kilns are a common feature of the estuaries and inlets of Cornwall and West Devon. Limestone, brought in by sea, was burned to produce quicklime which could be spread on fields to improve the rather poor acid soils.

Cornwall : The Norway Inn
On the A39 near Perranarworthal. It is reputed that the name comes from the Norwegian ships that brought in the pit prop timbers for the tin mines in the area to the nearby Perran Wharf. At that time, the river was far deeper than it is today and it was even possible for small sailing vessels to discharge upstream from the Norway. The wharf traded until the early 20th century when the river silted up.

The Norway Inn at Perranarworthal
The Norway Inn takes its name from the ships from Norway which used to bring timber to Perran Wharf for use in the local mining industry. The river silted up from the early 20th century to its present state where it is only navigable by small craft on high spring tides.
