I think this is the way
Looking back at the walking route at a spot where exactly what happens here is hidden on the map under the text for the nearby farmstead of Hellesveor, and there are no footpath signs. It was the right way.

Hellesveor Methodist church
The sign indicates that the building was built in 1844. This is large and well built for a Methodist church, supporting other evidence of widespread support for this non-conformist religion in West Cornwall.
