Veryan - The Homeyard Homes
The Homeyard Homes on Century Lane in Veryan are C20th almshouses built originally to house the widows of Cornishmen drowned at sea. They reference the round houses of the previous century for which Veryan is famous. (see Image] and Image]) The rear of this property can be seen from the churchyard of Image] - see Image]

Veryan - UK's longest grave - The Hera victims
This remarkably long grave (about 100' (30m)) is along the southern boundary of the churchyard of Image] It is the final resting place of 15 of the 19 casualties of the sinking of the German ship Hera on the night of 31st January/1st February 1914 which had foundered on the outliers of Gull Rock just off Nare Head off the coast to the south of the village. The headstone (in the distance in this image, but seen here Image]) commemorates all 19 victims including the three whose bodies were never recovered and the captain, whose body was returned to Germany.

Veryan - Church of St Symphorian - The tower
The tower of St Symphorian in the village of Veryan is very unusual in being to the south of the church (it is far more usually either at the western end or over the crossing of a cruciform church). It is seen here from the western end of the path that climbs to the higher southern section of the churchyard. See shared description below for more information and links.

Veryan - Church of St Symphorian - Nave looking eastwards
Looking along the nave of the Church of St Symphorian in Veryan with the altar below the East Window. There is no obvious division between the nave and chancel. The ribs of the barrel roof are carved - see Image] for a close-up view. See also shared description below.

Veryan - Church of St Symphorian - Font
It is thought that the carving on the perimeter of the bowl is probably Norman (dating from the C11th-early C12th) but that the bowl has been recut and that the shafts and central pier supporting it are somewhat younger (e.g. C15th).

Veryan - St Symphorian - Carved heads on porch (southern)
As one enters Image] the arch of the porch has carved heads on both imposts. The ones seen here are on the southern side of the arch. They are thought to predate the main fabric of the church (which is c.1300) by about 200 years as they are likely Norman. For their compatriots on the north side of the arch, see Image] See also shared description below:
