Brass Lectern, Truro Cathedral
Eagle lecterns are very common in churches. The Eagle is the symbol used to depict St John the Evangelist. It is understood that it's his writing that most clearly sees the light and divinity of Christ. This example is particularly fine.

Truro Cathedral (west front from High Cross)
Truro Cathedral was the first cathedral to be built on a new site since Salisbury was started in 1220. Two Foundation Stones were laid on 20th May 1880 by the Duke of Cornwall (later Edward VII). It was built in the Gothic Revival architectural style to a design by the architect John Loughborough Pearson. The central tower and spire stands 250 feet (76 m) tall, while the western towers reach to 200 feet (61 m). The first section of the cathedral was consecrated in 1887. The central tower was completed by 1905 and the building was completed with the opening of the two western towers in 1910.
