Staple, Cott
I'm astonished I haven't submitted images of this charming little green, surrounded by mostly old cottages, on the east side of Cott. Was it a local trading centre, as the name might suggest? On the right is the thatched Steps Cottage, dating originally from around 1500 https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1324984 . The house on the left here is mapped as Old Staple, and identified on the Historic England map as a listed outbuilding https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1108330 , but the description in no way matches.

Hop Cottage, Cott
Looking to the left from the same spot as Image The C17 thatched cottage is described at https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1221222 . Below it on the right, Dartington Footpath 17 leaves the green at Stale and heads towards the A385 at Lower Tweed Mill. On the right is Old Staple; see other photo.

Crossing Cross
According to the name written vertically along the fingerpost this junction on the edge of Cott is called Crossing Cross... and who am I to argue.
