Magnolia tree, Brunel's Viaduct, Churston, Torbay
The magnolias are having a good start to the year. It is a rewarding tree that celebrates early spring in a dramatic way, following the camellias. We look down towards Broadsands beach through the Brunel Viaduct. It is quite a steep hill.

Below Hookhills Viaduct, near Broadsand beach
I K Brunel's Hookhills Viaduct is a fine piece of railway architecture which dominates the nearby houses with its presence. However, peace generally prevails in the road down to the beach over which it stretches, punctuated only occasionally by the puffing of the steam train and its whistle.

Budding magnolia and Brunel's Viaduct, Broadsands Road
The magnolia will soon look magnificent on the hill down to Broadsands beach as its flowers will cover the whole bush. Brunel's Viaduct stands as it stood when first constructed, a tribute to the Victorian builders and engineers.

Hookhills Viaduct, near Broadsands Beach
This viaduct, built by I K Brunel, has recently had a plaque added with attribution. This is used by the private Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway company which runs from the heart of the traditional Paignton town Centre along the coast and through Churston through rural countryside to Kingswear on the River Dart.
