Protecting the railway from cliff falls near Holcombe
This famous stretch of railway on its sea wall passes below high sandstone cliffs Image It is protected from rock falls and landslides by netting and fences. The natural process whereby eroded material replenishes the beach is thus unfortunately prevented. Undermining of the sea wall by the sea remains a possibility. The white boxes on posts are presumed to be solar-powered devices registering any movement in the rock and transmitting the data to Network Rail.
