Closed Waitrose store, Teignmouth
The view is from the car park off Higher Brook Street, A379. Waitrose took over this store from the Co-op perhaps seven or eight years ago. It seemed popular and successful but may have lost customers to the Morrisons that opened on the western edge of the town perhaps three years ago. Waitrose prices too high? Locals are expecting a Lidl here. Waitrose has also closed its store in St Marychurch at the north end of Torquay. The Co-op retains its cramped, busy convenience food store in Bank Street. There is also a Tesco convenience store with petrol. A local greengrocer, a butcher and a couple of bakers are still trading. Asda, Lidl, Sainsbury's and Tesco all have large stores not far away in Dawlish, Newton Abbot and Torquay.

Higher Brook Street East, A379
This is the main traffic artery through Teignmouth. Behind the landscaping, left, is the other footway and beyond it is the railway in a cutting. The prominent houses on the skyline, left, are in Salisbury Terrace.
