Shaptor Wood
A rare almost level section of the path that crosses the steep wooded hillsides below Shaptor. This area is Pixey Copse. A carpet of bluebells looks likely in a few weeks.

Trees across the path, Sunny Copse
See Image]; here on a steep slope there is no diversion so these fallen trunks must be scrambled over or crawled under.

Boulders in Shaptor Wood
Mossy boulders beside a remarkably wild path that winds through Shaptor Wood and Stonelands Waste, on the eastern fringe of the Dartmoor National Park. The woods drop steeply into farmland, glimpsed in the background. Looking south-west.

Crossroads, Aller Lane
A tree overhangs a slightly offset crossroads of lanes. The two lanes behind the camera lead to the A382; the two ahead are dead ends, for normal traffic at least.

Fiddlehead Fern (curled-up young bracken fern)
There must be a time-lapse video of plants like this unwinding like a spring. Ferns came before flowers or seeds - 100 million years before dinosaurs. More info about fiddlehead ferns here: https://pages.uoregon.edu/ecostudy/elp/ntfp/Fiddleheads%20Final.htm

Shaptor Wood
This is open access land, but it is much easier to stay on the permissive path through the woodland and view it from here. It felt warm, the sun was shining through the thin canopy, and the wood was protecting us from the wind.

Bluebells and orchids, Pixey Close
The number of early purple orchids rivals that of bluebells in this part of the woods.
