Chagford: North Street
With a 'live' leat on the right, which apparently flowed - or still flows, in culvert - to Mill Street. It looks too insignificant to power waterwheels, and may have been a potwater/water supply leat

Leat, Chagford
This feature is preserved beside New Street. Metal fittings show where a miniature sluice would have been used to prevent water escaping. From http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/chagford-caa.pdf : "leats were and still are a particular important feature of Chagford ... {They} were cut to serve a variety of purposes, from providing the power for the various mills situated in the town, as an early town water supply, providing additional power for the electricity station, and to bring water to the four open fields situated to the west of New Street." Most are now culverted.

New Street, Chagford
A similar view to Image, but taken just over an hour later, with the sun now catching the facades of number 4 and 6. The latter is one of Chagford's earliest cottages - at least C17 - and retains its original thatched roof and casement windows.

No 2, New Street, Chagford
The afternoon sun brings particular character to this prominent house which faces along the High Street, and can therefore be seen from the town centre. The churchyard is on the left.

New Street, Chagford
Taken from the junction with the High Street; Image is behind the camera. New Street was "new" at least as early as the C16, and possibly 300 years before that.
