Tree on edge of Chagford Open Field
The oak stands in the hedge which drops down the steep hillside at the foot of the field. On the right is one of the houses on Manor Drive at the southwestern edge of Chagford. The horse is grazing in a paddock bordered by a small tributary of the River Teign.

In the early nineteenth century a woollen mill stood on this site. Moorlands was a hotel from 1848. More recently the building has been converted to residential accommodation

The way to the playing fields
Seen from Manor Road, the un-named lane provides access to the War Memorial Playing Fields. The fields are home to Chagford Cricket Club and Chagford Cricket Club as indicated by the sign. The lane is also signed as a public bridleway.
